John Calvin writes:
“It will not suffice simply to hold that there is One whom all ought to honor and adore, unless they are also persuaded that he is the fountain of every good…” (Institutes I-2-1)
Note that Calvin says that we must see the living God as the fountain or source of every good. And then he gives this statement which I think is a five bell/home run in the bottom of the ninth:
“I call “piety” that reverence joined with love of God which the knowledge of his benefits induces. For until men recognize that they owe everything to God, that they are nourished by his fatherly care, that he is the Author of their every good…unless they establish their complete happiness in Him, they will never give themselves truly and sincerely to Him.”(Institutes I-2-1)
Please pray that we in the coming generations will have a vision of a great and glorious conquering communicating ever-present God who, in the fullness of time, took our sins upon his body and died on the cross as our substitute.
