Heritage Builders is a year long life skills class designed to support youth as they transition from foster care to independence. Without intervention, youth leave the foster care with little positive adult support, limited knowledge of basic life skills, and minimal resources. These factors paint a despairing future, with high percentages of unplanned pregnancies and school dropouts. When young people age out totally alone, there is a significant increase in their likelihood to: become victims of human trafficking, be incarcerated, abuse their own children, and face chronic homelessness. In line with our foster and adoption initiative, as a church, we want to come alongside youth to help support them and advocate for them.
We will need many advocates who will commit to participating for 6 months and spend time at least once a month with their assigned youth. Advocates must be at least 21 years old and must attend our 2 hour training on January 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
